Post-war classic describing the author's life as a working canal boatman in the last 3 years of WWII. Three girls go boating during the war, carring cargo on England's canals as part of the Ministry of War Transport scheme. Part fact, part fiction.This copy is accompanied by two holograph letters (4pp) by the author + one envelope addressed to Peter Opie in her hand (postmarked 1950) along wit several newspaper clippings relating to her writings, all dealing with this title and her second book 'The Far Cry'.
